Middleton Railway. A heritage railway in Leeds. Oldest working railway in the world.
With the Leeds City Centre visible in the background, the 1891-built NER class H no. 1310 is seen hauling a southbound Saturday train on the Middleton Railway. The Middleton Railway is being considered the world’s oldest working railway, being in operation since 1758 - at first as a wooden wagonway for horse-drawn carts and introducing steam traction in 1812.
