Yorkshire and the Humber
End of October brought a change of weather - with wind and rain came low temperatures. There was little reason to leave home, but the Statesman Rail rail tour from Milton Keynes Central to Inverness convinced me to do so. Led by two class 47s - D1733 and D1924 the 1Z22 ‘Lord Of The Isles: Day 1’ Milton Keynes Central to Inverness rail tour is seen passing the site of Ackworth station near Pontefract located on a very sparingly used section of the line between Moorthorpe and Pontefract Baghill. The train was timetabled to call at Northampton, Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham International, Tamworth, Derby, Chesterfield, Moorthorpe, York, Newcastle, Edinburg, Perth, Dunkeld & Birnam, Kingussie and Aviemore - and by the time it passed York it was snowing!
