In 2013 Koleje Mazowieckie announced a tender for 22 double-decker carriages and two locomotives. This was considered to be an easy win for Bombardier, as the company had already delivered this type of vehicles to KM before. Surprisingly, Bombardier could not be bothered to place their bid, and eventually, a deal was struck with Pesa Bydgoszcz. Compatibility with the Bombardier stock was a requirement so that formations could be extended with new intermediate coaches. After initial teething problems, the sets achieved a decent reliability and it’s a common sight to see vehicles from both series in the same consist. On a November afternoon, the 12682 ‘Radomiak’ semi-fast train is ready for departure from Warszawa Wschodnia, formed of a Bombardier DVT, four intermedia Pesa coaches and a Bombardier TRAXX loco.
